Potting traditions of medieval and post-medieval Eastern Mediterranean

Session chairs: Dr Jelena Živković, Dr Athanasios Vionis and Dr Maria Dikomitou Eliadou

This session welcomes contributions dedicated to interdisciplinary studies of potting traditions in the medieval and post-medieval Eastern Mediterranean (c. the 7th - 19th centuries). Proposals are invited for papers on any theme related to potting traditions, including but not limited to: production technologies of ceramics, slips and glazes, provenance studies, craft organisation, archaeological data on ceramics and production sites. We encourage discussions on local case studies within a wider context of the Eastern Mediterranean with regard to cultural, socio-economic and political developments. The session aims for a diverse scope of methodological and theoretical approaches that can stimulate debates on the characteristics and variability of medieval and post-medieval potting traditions in the region.
